About the Chancellor Office

The president is the chief executive officer of Al-Muthanna University. He is responsible of defining the university vision and future plans that enforce the university’s mission of education, research and service. Prof. Dr. Amer Ali Al-Atwi took office as Al-Muthanna University president on May, 2019.

This position is the highest administrative position in the university. As the university leader, the president is working under the direct contact and supervision from the minister of the higher education in Iraq. The president provides the strategic directions in order to lead the university to achieve the strategic goals. In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ministry of higher education and research in Iraq has given full authorities to the president. These authorities include scientific authorities and administrative and financial authorities.

The scientific authorities include approving the colleges’ counsels’ scientific decisions; approving the faculty members’ applications to enroll in research projects that are held inside Iraq or outside the county; approving the graduate extension of the graduate students; reviewing and monitoring the quality of teaching and research in the university; granting scholarships and fellowships to the applicants to study inside the country or aboard; approving the university counsel decision of opening new colleges or departments; approving the faculty members’ scientific promotions; making agreements with other universities and institutions; approving the graduation of undergraduate and graduate students.

The administrative authorities include hiring and assigning faculty members to different colleges inside the university; approving faculty members’ applications to work and teach outside the university; approving the retirement applications of the university’s employees and faculty members; contacting and arranging with the government departments in any university matter; representing the university in meeting and conferences inside the country and aboard; Assigning the heads of the departments in the colleges based on the recommendations from the deans; accepting or rejecting the faculty member’s resignations.

All these authorities are used with consideration to the ministry of higher education laws and the Iraqi laws in general.
