Computer Center at Al -Muthanna University

Introduction  

The technology of information and communications in our time has an important effect in advancing the process of scientific, economic and social development of any country, with the aim of progress and development, increasing production, improving the quality of products and shortening time in many scientific and administrative processes In our Arab countries, the information and communications technology sector was in its early, humble beginnings, but Iraq was the first to create the National Computer Center in the early 1970s and create computer science departments in the universities of Baghdad, Basra, Mosul and Technology in the early 1980s and take steps to start the computer industry. And work to spread the use of computers for research purposes and to develop administrative work . The Electronic computer Center was established at Al -Muthanna University with the aim of computerizing administrative and scientific procedures in the departments and people of the university presidency and its colleges and preparing training programs in the areas of the use of computer technologies as well as managing and maintaining the main and subsidiary computer networks, maintaining computers and their accessories and linking them to the internal network (intnet) as well as linking the university to the global network ( The Internet) as well as software development and follow -up.

The Center also contributes to developing the academic and research environment for faculty members, students, researchers, and employees and providing services to university members and students as well as the community, especially providing consultation and technical support in the field of computer science .

The targets of computer center 

1- Achieving the comprehensive quality of the university by providing and preserving the latest information technology systems.

2- Seek to prepare and develop various systems and software that serves the march (scientific, administrative, educational, and service) for the university.

3-Complete the university’s infrastructure in the field of information technology and keep pace with modern technologies.

4- Supervising the internet and Internet networks, developing and updating them periodically .

5- Continuous training and qualification for university employees and holding training courses for private and public institutions.

6- Developing and updating the university’s website in its various colleges and perpetuation.

Computer Center tasks

Work to provide the necessary technology to upgrade the educational process and prepare and provide systems that enable the university to obtain data and information in the shortest possible time. The electronic computer center also undertakes many tasks:

  • Design and development of the university’s websites and its various colleges and the multiple electronic services it provides.
  • Operating and perpetuating the main server devices and the main university data storage units, updating and developing them permanently.
  • Providing technical support services to perpetuate the work of computers that are used in scientific, administrative and technical departments.
  • Operating and sustaining the internal university network and providing internet service for all university buildings, faculty members and employees.
  • Providing training and consulting services in computer and information systems.
  • Setting technical specifications for software systems, networks and equipment of networks, personal computers and various accessories that are required by the nature of the various university works and formations.
  • Providing the necessary consultations regarding the purchase and use of computers at the university and all consultations in the field of communications and information technology.
The center carries out tasks and duties through the following divisions : 

First: The Administrative Division (Secretarial):

This division coordinates all the work of the center’s divisions , especially the requests directed at the center, follow up the attendance, departure and times necessary for the work of the center’s employees in it in addition to all service and administrative work and follow -up of the incoming and outgoing mail from the center.

Second: Network and Internet division :

This division builds , maintains, and supervises the university’s wired and wireless network, as well as Internet and e-mail services. As well as developing a security system to protect communications devices and networks and monitoring their application by managing the main electronic protection systems and programs and virus treatment programs and updating them on an ongoing basis.

Third: Training and Development Division:

The Training and Development division undertakes the following tasks : –

  • Holding the qualifying courses for the lecturers , employees and students such as those that are adopted to qualify post-graduate students (the basic computer skill IC3) in addition to other rehabilitation courses for scientific promotions.
  • The establishment of development courses in the field of specialization for the lecturers , entities and individuals from outside the college, such as database courses, and systems analysis courses and systems design courses for modern applications.
  • Holding training courses on computer applications, software and systems in coordination with continuing education and according to a schedule prepared in advance and distributed to university formations and the local community.
  • Holding seminars and discussions related to the Center’s tasks and activities.
  • Create the technical and administrative supplies necessary to hold courses such as computer Lab , display devices, theoretical and practical lectures, and the performance of electronic tests.
  • The center seeks to obtain accreditations from international companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, and Cisco Networking Academy
Fourth: Division of Systems and Graphics:
  • Designing field systems is consistent with the expansion and development of the university to be accessible to the various university formations, such as the people of registration and student affairs, research and development, scholarships and cultural relationships, human resources, owners and maintenance.
  • Follow up the progress of the implementation of the systems in the university formations to ensure that they meet the requirements of their preparation.
  • Prepare a guide for all regulations operating at the university.
  • Provide a study on programs that are difficult for the university to design for the purpose of obtaining it from outside the university.
Fifth: Website Division:

This unit is based on the design and development of the university’s website in line with the aspirations of the university presidency. The tasks of this unit can be summarized as follows :-

  • Developing the website pages, guaranteeing and working properly.
  • Developing and designing sub-sites within the university’s website for colleges and administrative and scientific departments.
  • Developing electronic services provided through the website.
  • Developing specialized sub-sites such as sites for scientific conferences and events held at the university.
  • Supervising the databases on the website and its services.
sixth :- Maintenance Division

This division is responsible for providing maintenance services to computers and their accessories of printers and other devices and ensuring that they work well in all university facilities. The work of this division can be summarized as follows:

  • Preparing a timetable for periodic maintenance work distributed to all scientific departments, divisions , administrative units and technical units at the university.
  • Examine the appliances attached to the computer system such as printers, light scanners, display devices and any other supplement device.
  • Holding maintenance courses in coordination with the Training and Development Unit at the Center to qualify maintenance employees to perform their duties.
