Al-Muthanna University Participates Internationally in a Global Dialogue to Save Freshwater Ecosystems
September 14, 2025Al-Muthanna University has achieved a new academic milestone by securing an advanced ranking in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE Impact Rankings ) . The university ranked 17th among Iraqi public universities, reflecting its ongoing efforts in sustainable development and institutional performance quality. The President of Al-Muthanna University, Professor Dr. Hussein Kamil Al-Shaher, stated: “Securing this position in a global ranking is the result of diligent strategic planning and sincere efforts by our academic and administrative staff. These efforts have aimed to align academic and research programs with the requirements of sustainable development and to serve both local and national communities through scientific frameworks and international standards.” He further noted that this ranking motivates the university to continue advancing its institutional performance and strengthening its academic and research roles locally and internationally. This, in turn, supports Iraq’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He affirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining excellence across all areas of higher education.
Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Sadiq Mohammed, Director of the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance, explained that this international ranking is based on how well universities are committed to achieving the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These goals include: no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice and strong institutions, and finally, partnerships for the goals.
