The University of Al-Muthanna, under the auspices of Professor Dr. Hussein Kamel Al-Shaher, the university president, has been witnessing for several months the construction and establishment of “Al-Muthanna University Museum,” which is annexed to the Central Library of the University. It has been designed according to the standards of Iraqi museums, based on specific measurements and a lighting system that suits the artifacts of this museum. On his part, the university president affirmed that the university museum will be our new cultural identity, not only for the university but also for the governorate and the region as a whole. Working on it is among the priorities of the university presidency and its developmental projects within the framework of sustainable development projects. He added, Currently, preparations are underway to equip the museum with materials, artifacts, and cultural components representing the entirety of Iraqi civilization and its heritage from all epochs. This museum aims to be a destination for visitors and researchers interested in the history of Iraq across different periods. Additionally, the university has signed a partnership agreement with the management of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine Museum to exchange expertise and contribute to the scientific and systematic development of our museum .
Professor Dr. Qasim Al-Hilu, Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, said, This museum is considered one of the pioneering projects at the governorate and university levels. We attach great importance to this aspect as it represents a cultural memory preserved within scientific foundations and documented methodologies that reflect the cultural depth of the land of Mesopotamia.
As for the museum’s collections, Assistant Professor Dr. Furqan Aziz Mohammed, the responsible for the museum, said, Since assuming the responsibilities of managing the museum, we have been striving to obtain heritage collections related to the popular environment of Samawah city and its historical memory, in addition to designing models that simulate the history and civilization of Mesopotamia in a professional and high-quality manner, as well as other cultural elements that are important in the historical civilization of Al-Muthanna governorate.
It’s worth mentioning that the museum doors will open to students and visitors in the upcoming academic year 2024-2025.
