  1. Pediatrics (Year-Sixth, Semester-First) this course includes the following items:
  • MT, discussion of long & short cases, information about OSCE, paed. Emergency, systemic examination, instruments communication skills
  • MT, OSCE stations, medical approach for different diseases, Procedures slides , congenital anomalis
  • MT, syndromes, paed. Emergency, discussion of cases, OSCE stations, instruments and procedures, attending Thalassemia ward                              
  • MT , Endocrine disorders discussion, clinical examination,  Neurological examination, medical history and  Stations
  • MT, infectious diseases in the wards , paed. Emergency, Long and short cases , OSCE stations
  1. Gynecology and Obstetrics (Year-Sixth, Semester-First) this course includes the following items:
  • Long cases discussion
  • Seminar presentation
  • Labour room training
  • Emergency room training
  • Operating theater training
  • Infertility clinic (outpatient)
  • IVF procedure (IUI)
  • Operation (laproscopy,HSG)
  • clinical examination
  • Exam
  1. Surgery (Year-Sixth):

Clinical skill training:

We teach basic surgical skills to our final year students and interns in minor OT, casualty theatre and main theatre. In the department we also organize yearly workshop on suturing & knot tying where students get an opportunity to acquire hands-on experience on these important skills.

Assessment:

A weightage of 20 marks for clinical examination at the end of 12 weeks training course in the inpatient wards, outpatient department, emergency department, theater and radiology department. This examination consists of an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and long cases examination. Final examination consist of a written examination (40 marks) in the form of viva questions  and 40 marks for the final clinical examination based on the similar approach of former clinical examination.

Objectives of Clinical Training:

At the end of clinical posting in surgery, a student should be able to:

  • Carry out a physical examination
  • Identify patients’ problems
  • Reach a differential diagnosis
  • Formulate appropriate investigations
  • Interpret the results of investigations
  • Plan appropriate management
  • Undertake some aspects of management
  • Demonstrate adequate communication skills
